Félix Tholomyès is the former lover of Fantine and the biological father of Cosette, though his name was never mentioned in the musical. He is not physically attractive: he is starting to show signs of baldness, has several wrinkles and has lost all of his teeth, however he is very self-confident and cheerful. Tholomyès is a wealthy student at the age of thirty who thinks much less of his relationship with Fantine than she does. His friends, Listolier, Fameuil, and Blachevelle were also paired with Fantine's friends Dahlia, Zéphine, and Favourite. The men abandon the women with only good-bye notes, treating their relationships as youthful amusements. In the book he dates Fantine for a few years, but in the musical, as Fantine says in I Dreamed a Dream, "he slept a summer by my side... but he was gone when Autumn came". Fantine is heartbroken at his abandoning her and is left to care for the infant Cosette alone.

Tholomyès gives longs speeches and Courfeyrac is later compared to him. After abandoning Fantine and Cosette, he becomes a lawyer. In other plays and the movie he is tall and blonde.
